After the resounding success of our Rondekop release in May, we are excited to share some news with you. The Stone Axe Syrah 2022 – the first Rondekop wine to don our new label – holds a captivating story. This updated label is a significant step forward in our journey to create a unique identity for each wine in the Rondekop series. We firmly believe that the name of each of our wines is not just a label but a personality that embodies its place.
Stone Axe is derived from the stone hand axes found on the top of Rondekop, where our Syrah vineyards are located. The terroir of this site is exceptionally rugged due to the extreme rockiness of the soil and the windy conditions prevalent there. The stone axes are estimated to be between 50,000 and 100,000 years old – ancient humans possibly using Rondekop as a vantage point in the valley.
The connection between our vinification from this rugged site and the stone axes and their early humans reflects the common utility of nature and place, connecting the past to the present. We are also proud to feature the WWF Conservation Champion logo and Oldenburg Vineyards Estate Wine on the new labels. The Stone Axe 2022 is now available for purchase. You can experience this exceptional wine by visiting our Tasting Room or ordering directly through Stefan, our Private Client Sommelier.
As an exclusive treat, we are also releasing a limited edition of 12 magnum bottles of the Stone Axe 2018, priced at R2530 each.
