These corridors not only enhance aesthetics but also restore biodiversity to areas once thriving with native species. Collaborating with fynbos experts, we strategically reintroduce select fynbos species, creating essential habitats for beneficial insects like wasps and ladybirds. These insects, in turn, play a vital role in controlling the mealybug, which spreads the leafroll virus, contributing to a balanced ecosystem.nn nnThese corridors also serve as shelters for creatures like caracal, mongoose, and guinea fowl, fostering natural pest control and healthier vineyard environments. Those of you that have visited the farm on a quiet day, may well have seen the resident Cape Mongoose family poke their heads out of the fynbos in person on our front lawn. Guinea fowls (natural predators of the snouted beetle) nest in the fynbos, aiding in pest management. The corridors also act as nesting sites for these, enhancing their population and impact on pest control.nn nnApproximately two hectares of the estate are dedicated to fynbos corridors. The commitment to conservation is exemplified by the introduction of rare and endangered fynbos species. This effort reflects the team’s dedication to preserving the delicate balance of the ecosystem, highlighting the dual role of fynbos as both a visual and ecological asset.nn nnWhile the impact of fynbos might not be evident in wine flavours, its influence on honey production is undeniable. Bees gather pollen from fynbos flowers, creating a unique honey profile tied to the ecosystem.
