Review – Rondekop Rhodium 2019

Following the popularity of the 2018 vintage (which was the first Cabernet Franc dominant Rhodium blend), we are excited to release the Rondekop Rhodium 2019. This vintage is the first since 2011 to have a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon – the blend consists of 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

A stellar wine from Nic’s maiden vintage, the 2019 shines as an example of the potential of the Banghoek Valley to produce Right-bank Bordeaux blends. Showing a rich, deep ruby colour, vibrant aromas of brambles, rhubarb and dried cranberries meet your nose, alongside hints of lavender, rosemary and thyme.  The palate has a juicy acidity, a delightfully pleasant mouthfeel and a long, luscious finish. You’ll taste blackcurrant, star anise, and even a hint of roasted chilli and cayenne pepper.

Youthful, with a fine and gentle tannin structure, this wine will begin opening up after as little as 12 months, but will reach the peak of it’s significant potential within 10-12 years, and continue to age gracefully even beyond that.

The Rondekop Rhodium 2019 is available online and from The Tasting Room, at R550 per bottle. For more information, or to place your order, contact
