Review – Grenache Noir 2020

The new vintage of our Grenache Noir has been eagerly anticipated by the fans of this versatile variety. Since Nic’s first vintage, the style of Grenache Noir has shifted to something more ethereal – a light touch, still expressing vibrancy and elegance. The Grenache Noir vineyards are planted as bushvines, with a granite boulder leaning against each vine to help them withstand the very windy back of Rondekop.

The wine has a ruby core and an almost lavender-purple colour on the rim. Delicate aromas of fennel, raspberries, red cherries, violet and lavender fill the glass. The palate follows through with a warmness of baking spices like cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. A generous mouthfeel and mouth-watering acidity brings you back for another sip. Tannins are powdery soft and the finish is satisfying, with a touch of blood orange.

Production of the Grenache Noir is always very limited; previous vintages have sold out within a few months and this vintage is no exception. The wine will be released later in May – keep an eye on our social media for more on the release date. The Oldenburg Vineyards Grenache Noir 2020 will be available at R340 per bottle – from The Tasting Room and by contacting
