Good things come in threes. Or in this case, the philosophy should run more along the line of exceptional wines from extraordinary terroir come in threes. In Latin, the phrase ‘Omne trium perfectum’ quite literally translates to ‘everything that comes in threes is perfect’. How fortunate then, that this month we will be highlighting not just one, but all three of our new release Rondekop Wines: the Rondekop Rhodium 2020, Stone Axe 2021 and Per Se 2020 – all due to be released on the 1st of May.
RONDEKOP RHODIUM 2020
Named after the precious metal, this classic Right Bank Bordeaux Blend made from 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon truly shines this year. A stunning wine that has a great focus on depth and elegance.
“The palate is sleek and beautifully polished with a silky texture, bright red and black cherry fruit notes, some iodine and salinity, finishing with a harmonious, effortless intensity but also an understated, compact concentration. Lovely length, elegance and pedigree.”
Greg Sherwood MW Rating – 96 Points
“This is the best vintage yet of this Banghoek blend, with leafy, capsicum and parsley perfume, fine-grained oak, svelte tannins and a core of blueberry, red cherry and cinnamon spice. Bravo!”

RONDEKOP STONE AXE 2021
Taking its name from numerous prehistoric stone axes found on Rondekop, the grapes for our superlative Stone Axe Syrah were harvested from a single, high-altitude vineyard on Rondekop. This luscious and deeply aromatic Syrah is sure to impress.
“Bursting with dark cherries, red pepper corns and star anise. The addition of a touch of Grenache (a first for us) has elevated the aromatics on this single vineyard Syrah. In my opinion the best Stone Axe vintage ever!”

RONDEKOP PER SE 2020
Staying with the Latin theme, ‘Per Se’ is a Latin phrase meaning ‘in and of itself.’ This is indeed meant to be the best possible representation of Cabernet Sauvignon that the Banghoek Valley can achieve in our ideal growing conditions. The fruit, acidity and tannins are all perfectly balanced and will allow for spectacular development over the next 20 years.
“Flinty and smoky on the nose. More air presents smoky plum, almost with a touch of hoisin, cedar and conifer. Very fine tannins show a fine grip on the supple palate. This has all the structure, fruit and freshness it needs, along with aromatic finesse.”
